And the final construction aspect was taken care of by the same company that built Palm Jumeirah, i.e., Van Oord and Boskalis. The construction of the 300-island group started in 2003, but because of financial difficulties, it had to be halted in 2008. Only about two or three of Dubai’s world islands are currently fully operational and available for commercial use, and there have been reports that the islands may be sinking back into the ocean as a result of an inadequate foundation.
